Kulgam, May 12 (PTK): Instead of ensuring that there are minimum power cuts in the month of Ramadan, the Power Development Department has not only increased the curtailment hours but snapped the power supply in more than 20 villages in district Kulgam.
The locals allege that the PDD is still following the winter power supply schedule.
Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, a resident of Kund Qazigund told PTK that “It is appalling that instead of ensuring regular power supply during this holy month, the Power Development Department (PDD) is resorting to forced cuts,”
The locals also said that it gets difficult to go to the mosques during dark hours.
Meanwhile, the residents of Kund area of Qazigund, Kulgam on Sunday staged protests against the PDD, blocking the Qazigund-Kulgam road due to which hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on the both sides of the road.
The villages which are suffering from the power outage include Kulgam, Bongam, Sangas, Kahroot, Amnoo, Chawalgam, Pombay, Chatbal Panipora, Kadder, Yaripora, Parigam, Shalipora, Katruso, Nunmai, Balsoo and many adjoining villages of Kulgam district.
Locals told news agency Press Trust of Kashmir that they are facing difficulties due to absence of electricity. “They should be ashamed for increasing the curtailment in this holy month.
Executive engineer, PDD couldn’t be contacted in this regard. However, the residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, Shamim Ahmad Wani to look into the matter.
