NC stages protest against civilian killing in Kashmir
SRINAGAR, DEC 20 (PTK): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) staged a protest in different parts of kashmir against the civilian killings in Pulwama however police foiled the protest.
Scores of National Conference workers led by party general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar took out a protest rally from party headquarters at Nawai-Subh to Lal Chowk. However, heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces tried to stop the marchers near TRC junction, but the marchers were able to breach the barricades.
However, as the marchers reached Sher-e-Kashmir Park the police didn’t allow them to march towards city center Lal Chowk forcing the protesters to return. The protesters later dispersed off peacefully.
Meanwhile, Pulwama remained shut for the sixth consecutive day against the killings. The coordination committee of the district has extended the shutdown till December 21.
In Kupwara Dozens of National Conference (NC) workers led by former minister Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan and MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone staged a protest demonstration against the recent civilian killings in Pulwama outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara.
Fayaz Hamid, demanding an end to unending civilian killings in Kashmir, the NC protesters shouted anti-government slogans and punishment to the guilty in case of civilian killings in Pulwama.
In Bandipora Hundreds of National Conference (NC) activists in Bandipora also joined a protest march led by former legislator Gulam Rasool Mir against the Pulwama killings.
Protesters carrying plycards, black flags and banners marched through main market Bandipora and were raising slogans against Pulwama massacre.
Addressing a gathering, Mir urged New Delhi to end the massacre of innocent Kashmiris. “New Delhi is seeing every Kashmiri as its enemy, they should understand the aspiration of the people before the situation turns ugly turn,” Mir said.
Senior NC leader Muhammad Abdullah Wani also addressed the gathering and urged New Delhi to end the reign of terror in the state. Seven civilians were killed after armed forces opened fire on civilian protesters near the site of a gunfight in Kharpora Sarnoo village of Pulwama district last week. Three militants and an army man were killed in the gunfight.
National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah while reacting on the killings said that it is a massacre and there is no other way to describe it. Earlier, Abdullah while reacting to the civilian killings had said that it was ‘another blood soaked weekend in Kashmir‘.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti while reacting to the civilian killings said that there would be no probe which would bring back the dead. She also asked that ‘is this what was expected from the Governor rule’. She also said that no country can win a war by killing its own people.
Peoples’ Conference chief Sajad Lone while reacting on the civilian killings said that the administration seriously needs to evaluate the cost of such operations. He added that ‘hope the administration gives up its ‘Rambo mindset‘. (PTK)
