Director Agriculture Jammu Participates in Northern States Meeting on Rabi Price Policy 2027-28

Jammu, May 13 (PTK): Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Jammu Anil Gupta on Tuesday participated in a regional meeting of Northern States convened to discuss the Rabi Price Policy for the 2027-28 marketing season.

The meeting was held at Krishi Bhawan Chandigarh under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.

The meeting was organised by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices to deliberate on pricing policy for the upcoming Rabi marketing season with emphasis on ensuring fair remuneration to farmers and strengthening agricultural marketing mechanisms across northern states. Senior officers and representatives from various states participated in the deliberations.

Representing the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Anil Gupta actively participated in discussions related to procurement arrangements, crop pricing and welfare measures for farmers.

During the meeting, he stressed the importance of timely and effective procurement operations to safeguard farmers’ interests and called for direct procurement of wheat through the Food Corporation of India (FCI) so that farmers receive the notified Minimum Support Price without inconvenience.

He also emphasized the need for establishing adequate procurement mandis with proper infrastructure including storage facilities and availability of gunny bags to prevent distress sale of agricultural produce during the procurement season.

Officials also discussed implementation of the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism for ensuring transparent and timely payments directly into the bank accounts of farmers during the Rabi Marketing Season 2027-28.

Anil Gupta informed the meeting that the Agriculture Department of Jammu and Kashmir is actively promoting oilseeds, pulses and natural farming practices along with traditional crops to encourage crop diversification, improve soil health and enhance farmers’ income.

The meeting concluded with detailed discussions and exchange of suggestions among participating states for formulation of recommendations on the Rabi Price Policy for 2027-28.(PTK)
