21 Dead, 69 Injured as Bus Plunges into Gorge in Akhnoor
Jammu: In a tragic accident, at least 21 passengers lost their lives and 69 others sustained injuries when a bus carrying pilgrims rolled down into a deep gorge in the Chungi Marh area of Akhnoor in Jammu district this afternoon.
According to sources from the Press Trust of Kashmir, the accident occurred on the Jammu-Poonch highway near Chungi Morh. The bus, en route with a group of pilgrims, veered off the road and plunged into the gorge, resulting in the devastating loss of life and numerous injuries.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. The injured were initially transported to the Sub-District Hospital in Akhnoor. Those with critical injuries have since been referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for further treatment.
Authorities are in the process of identifying the deceased and injured. Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the crash.
This tragic event has cast a pall of gloom over the region, with families and communities mourning the loss of loved ones and hoping for the swift recovery of the injured.
