11th District Srinagar Pencak Silat Championship Begins at Polo Ground
Srinagar, May 13 (PTK): The 11th District Srinagar Pencak Silat Championship 2026-27 commenced on Tuesday at the historic Polo Ground Srinagar amid enthusiastic participation from athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts.
The championship is being organised by the District Srinagar Pencak Silat Association under the aegis of the Pencak Silat Association of Jammu and Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.
The event began with colourful demonstrations by national-level Pencak Silat athletes, drawing applause from the audience present at the venue.
Officials said that more than 450 athletes from different schools, clubs and academies across Srinagar district are participating in the championship in Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories for both boys and girls.
The Manager of Polo Ground attended the event as the chief guest and appreciated the role of Pencak Silat in promoting discipline, self-defence and physical fitness among youth. He also assured full support for promotion and development of combat sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
The three-day championship will feature competitions in Tanding (Match), Tunggal (Single), Ganda (Double) and Regu (Team) events.
Officials informed that medal winners from the championship will represent Srinagar district at the upcoming Union Territory-level championship.(PTK)
