Z-Morh tunnel to boost economic activities, tourism in Sonamarg
Tunnel to be completed by 2023 end
SRINAGAR (PTK):- Z- morh Tunnel will boost economic activities besides tourism in Sonamarg and Ladakh as this Tunnel will remain open throughout year.
Z-Morh, 6.5 km long tunnel to being built between Sonamarg and Ladakh and is set to be completed by December 2023.
During the winter season, Sonmarg receives the most snowfall and the temperature here drops down to -20 degrees.
A 6.5 km long tunnel has been constructed in Sonmarg, which is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the region.
Tunnel is being constructed by M/s Apco under NHIDCL, PMU-Sonamarg .
After the construction of this tunnel named Z-Morh, along with Sonmarg, now the journey to Leh-Ladakh will also be easier. At the same time, Sonmarg, like all other beautiful tourist places in Kashmir, will now be open throughout the year.
Apart from this, due to the ease of Kargil and Ladakh, this tunnel will also be of great benefit to the army.
The Z-Morh tunnel is built between high-rise Hills in Sonmarg, Kashmir and runs from Gagangir to Sonmarg.
The construction of this tunnel is almost complete and after its construction, Sonmarg will be open for tourists through out year, like Pahalgam and Gulmarg, During the winter season, Sonmarg receives the most snowfall and the temperature here drops to -20 degrees. In winter, it used to be cut off from other states of the country for about 4 months, but after the construction of the tunnel, traffic will now be possible throughout the year.
The army will also benefit greatly from the tunnel
The 6.5 km long Z-Morh tunnel has 2 lanes with an emergency or escape tunnel.
The tunnel is now 98 per cent ready. The tunnel has many features like CCTV camera, Wi-Fi connectivity and Cross Gallery.
There will also be no risk of avalanches after the construction of the Z-Morh tunnel. This tunnel will also greatly benefit the army and make it much easier to transport rations and weapons and so on to the border.
NHIDCL GM Vijay Kant Pandey told that 98 per cent of the civil work of the tunnel has been completed.
GM Pandey of NHIDCL hoped that the tunnel could be opened to the general public by December 2023.
The GM said this is a very important tunnel and due to this, the connectivity between Srinagar and Leh will not be broken anymore and at the same time the journey to Ladakh will also be easier.
People here say that with the tunnel open for 12 months, tourism will increase and people will also get employment. (PTK)
