Two Militants among Pakistani responsible for IED blasts killed in Shopian gunfight
SRINAGAR JULY 27 (PTK): Two militants have been killed in a clash with security forces in Bonabazar area of Shopian town that took place after a night long siege that was laid by security forces last evening.
Two militants were killed during the gunfight while there was no damage to security forces. The clash between militants and security forces occurred this morning after joint team of security forces that includes Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police went close to the place where the militants were believed to be hiding.
The militants hiding fired indiscriminately upon the forces to with security forces responded in a same way. During the exchange of bullets, forces managed to kill two militants who are believed to be local.
Nineteen-year-old Munna Lahori, also known as Bihari, hailed from Pakistan. He was actively engaged in Militant activities since 2017. Munna Lahori was responsible for partial car blast attack on Security Force convoy in Banihalon on March 30 this year, said police.
Lahori is also said to be the mastermind behind the fatal car blast on Army vehicle at Arihal in Pulwama in June this year.
Munna Lahori was responsible for two car bomb attacks on security forces, and also had killed several civilians in Kashmir valley, the police said. “He was involved in car blast attack on security forces convoy on March 30 at Banihal. He was also involved in car blast on Army vehicle at Arihal Pulwahma last month,” Jammu and Kashmir police chief Dilbag Singh said.
The second militant, who was killed in the encounter, was identified as 22-year-old Zeenat ul Islam, an associate of Lahori. He was a local militant, police said.
Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) with six grenades, three Chinese grenades, two AK 47, 1 SLR and 1 pistol were recovered from the bodies of the militants.
Over 960 militants have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir in the last five years, according to the government. During a discussion in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy recently said that the security forces were taking proactive action against Militants, as per the government’s zero tolerance policy towards Militancy.
“Due to concerted and synergised efforts of security forces, 963 Militants have been Killed in the state of Jammu and Kashmir since 2014 till June 2019. However, during these operations, 413 security forces personnel have also lost their lives,” Reddy said, replying to a written question.
Militancy incidents in Kashmir have reduced by 86 per cent in the last decade as compared to previous decade, he said.
Reddy also said the number of Militants incidents has substantially reduced between April 1, 2009 and June 30, 2019 as compared to the previous decade. (PTK)
