Social forestry department celebrated International day of Forests 2022 at SP College Sgr.

Srinagar March 21 (PTK) Socialforestry deptt. kashmir celebrated International day of Forests 2022 on 21 March 2022 at S. P College Sgr. with this year’s theme as” Forests and Sustainable production and Consumption “.
The event was kick started by Chief guest Sh PK Pole IAS , Divisional commissioner Kashmir by planting saplings of conifers and Ornamental plants in the premises of said college. More than 250 plants of various species were planted in the said mega drive where in Principal, faculty members, Staff of Social forestry department, NSS wing of SP college students, officers from District Administration Srinagar, NGOs participated.
Speaking on the occasion Chief guest, Sh P K Pole IAS briefed to media that Social Forestry deptt has planted more than 60000 plants within Srinagar city under various schemes especially under Srinagar Smart City Project etc. He stressed for plantations on degraded forest lands, blank lands and other lands to mitigate climate change and to increase forest cover and tree cover outside forests.
Speaking on this occasion, DFO Social Forestry Sgr. highlighted the importance of the day and activities carried out by Social forestry department under various schemes like Her Gaon Haryali, Green India Mission with active participation of PRIs through VPPCs etc to increase forest cover as well as to meet the demands of locals who are dependent on forests for their livelihood.
Formal vote of thanks was offered by Regional Director Social forests Kashmir to all participants and dignitaries. He assured that Social Forestry department will work in close coordination with Divisional and distric Administration Srinager and other Districts too to create green assets every where and will provide all logisitic support to PRIs and locals in meeting their livelihood needs by generating more avenues and opportunities for them.
