Several people injured during clashes with security forces in Shopian

SRINAGAR, SEP 02 (PTK): Several people were injured when security forces burst teargas shells and fired pellets to disperse demonstrators, who were trying to disrupt a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Shopian on Sunday.

Official sources said Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched joint search operation early this morning following a tip-off about the presence of militants at village Imam Sahib in Shopian.

‘However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. Security forces retaliated ensuing in a brief exchange of fire,” they said, adding the militants manage to escape from the spot.

As the news of the operation spread in the area, people hit the streets and tried to disrupt the operation.

The security forces, deployed to prevent any protests, immediately swung into action and tried to chase away the demonstrators. As it had no impact, they busted teargas shells and later fired pellets to disperse the demonstrators, who were pelting stones and bricks. (PTK)
