Srinagar : Security forces on Thursday claimed to have recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in the Lolab area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A senior police officer reported that on June 26, 2024, based on specific information, a joint search operation was launched by the Police, Army (28 RR, 47 RR), and 162 BN CRPF in the Andernard Gagal forest area. The search resulted in the recovery of arms and ammunition including two AK-47 magazines, 199 AK-47 rounds, one RPG shell, four Chinese hand grenades, and four M-17 hand grenades.
The officer stated that these arms and ammunition were hidden by unidentified terrorists or Over Ground Workers (OGWs) for carrying out terrorist activities in the Lolab area.
In connection with this recovery, a case has been registered under FIR No. 37/2024 U/S 7/27 Indian Arms Act, and sections 13, 18, 20, 23, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and an investigation has been initiated.
“This operation has delivered a major blow to the nefarious designs of Pakistan-based terrorist groups who have always aspired to disturb the peace and tranquillity in the Kashmir Valley,” the officer added.
