Role of JK Police remarkable in curbing drug menace across UT: President JKECC Shah Fayaz.

Asks civil society in general and teacher community in particular to do it’s bit in curbing the substance abuse.

 

Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar: In a statement issued to media, President Jammu and Kashmir Employees Coordination Committee and Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Association Mr. Shah Fayaz praised the efforts of JK Police in curbing the drug abuse across UT. Mr. Shah also stressed upon the civil society and teachers to put in stringent efforts for curbing the drug abuse. “Teachers are close to society and can do a good job in curbing substance abuse” said, Shah Fayaz.

 

While rampant drug abuse has become an alarming public health problem worldwide, the situation has worsened in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years with cases of deadly heroin and brown sugar addiction showing an upward trend, said Shah Fayaz, quoting findings of an independent agency.

 

Mr. Fayaz said, “the geographical location of Jammu and Kashmir makes the transit of deadly drugs possible especially deadly heroin and brown sugar, because of which thousands of young men and women are in the grip of drug addiction but police department is putting up strong efforts in keeping check on the situation so that contrabands are seized/destroyed before reaching the market”.

 

Quoting the stats of JK Police, Shah Fayaz said, “as per the data available with J&K Police, in Year 2020 alone, 36.08 kilograms of pure heroin and 49.7 kilograms of brown sugar were recovered from different parts of the Valley. In the north Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Baramulla, 21.15 kgs and 7.60 kgs of heroin respectively were recovered in 2020”.

 

Mr. Shah said, “keeping in view the alarming situation of drug addiction, the parental role vis-a-vis watch and ward of children has increased and parents are requested to maintain a close vigil not only upon their children but that of community as a whole, only then we’ll be able to wipe off the evil from our society”.

 

Stressing upon putting up a collective effort of government and public for dealing the drug abuse, Shah Fayaz said, that employees unions as well as teacher community are ready to lend a helping hand to the Government whenever asked for.

 

At last, Mr. Fayaz requested the common masses of Jammu and Kashmir to come forward and make efforts for curbing the substance abuse across JK UT. Mr. Shah also said that teachers, be those working in government sector or those in private sector can play a pivotal role in dealing the challenges posed by drug addiction and can help build a strong, healthy and morally upright society.(PTK).
