Amid ongoing discussions about the involvement of religious leaders in the electoral process, a prominent Kashmiri cleric, Molana Ghulam Rasool Hami, is expected to contest the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources have informed The Press Trust of Kashmir that the 50-year-old Hami, a well-known spiritual figure from Srinagar, will enter the electoral fray for the polls scheduled to begin on September 18th.

Molana Ghulam Rasool Hami, a key preacher with a significant following across the region, is reportedly considering running from the Beerwah constituency in Budgam district. Additionally, the Shaltang seat in Srinagar district is also under consideration. His potential candidacy is creating a buzz, marking a significant shift in the political landscape of Kashmir, which has seen a decade-long pause in assembly elections.

This development comes as another religious organization, Jamaat-e-Islami, is in talks with the government regarding participation in the elections. Despite not yet receiving a response to their appeal to lift the ban imposed by the central government, Jamaat-e-Islami remains keen on entering the political arena.

Several other religious and social figures from Kashmir are also reportedly in dialogue with various political parties and government officials, expressing their interest in participating in the elections.

As the region prepares for this significant political event, Molana Hami’s involvement is seen as a potential game-changer. However, when contacted by The Press Trust of Kashmir for comments on this development, Molana Ghulam Rasool Hami was unavailable.

The political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir is on the cusp of change, and the participation of religious leaders like Molana Hami could have a profound impact on the upcoming assembly elections.
