Police Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Anantnag, Shopian; 12 Vehicles Seized
Srinagar, May 25 (PTK): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday intensified its crackdown against illegal mining and unauthorized extraction of mineral resources in Anantnag and Shopian districts, seizing 12 vehicles including JCBs, tippers, dumpers and a tractor during multiple enforcement actions.
In Anantnag district, a police party from Police Post Janglatmandi detected illegal extraction of mining material in the Donipawa area. During the operation, one JCB and four tippers allegedly involved in unlawful extraction and transportation of mineral resources were seized on the spot. Police said cognizance of the matter has been taken under relevant provisions of law.
In another operation conducted during night patrolling, a police party from Police Post Dialgam intercepted and seized five dumpers at Bondialgam Crossing for their involvement in illegal transportation of minerals. In this connection, FIR No. 157/2026 has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, in Shopian district, police seized one JCB and one tractor during routine patrolling in the Berthipora area. The vehicles were allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals and were operating without valid royalty documents.
Accordingly, FIR No. 52/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and further investigation has been taken up.
Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated its commitment towards protecting natural resources and warned that strict legal action would continue against those involved in illegal mining activities.
Police also appealed to the public to cooperate and report unlawful mining activities in their respective areas.(PTK)
