Night Temperature Hovers Above Normal Amid Heatwave Forecast in J&K

 

 

Srinagar, : Night temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir continued to stay above normal, with meteorologists predicting another dry and hot day on Monday.

 

According to a meteorological department official, generally dry weather is expected until May 28, though there remains a possibility of thundershower activity at isolated places. From May 29-31, the region may experience partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain and thunderstorms likely in isolated areas during the afternoon.

 

Despite this, no significant weather activity is anticipated until the end of the month. The official warned of a heatwave over the plains of Jammu and Kashmir divisions, with hot and dry conditions expected in the hilly districts over the next two days. Residents are advised to avoid heat exposure and stay hydrated.

 

In Srinagar, the night temperature recorded was 15.6°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s 15.1°C and 3.6°C above the normal for this time of year. Other regions also experienced elevated night temperatures: Qazigund recorded 12.4°C (1.7°C above normal), Pahalgam 7.7°C (1.6°C above normal), Kokernag 13.6°C (3.0°C above normal), Kupwara 12.0°C (1.4°C above normal), and Gulmarg 11.2°C (4.1°C above normal).

 

In Jammu, the temperature was slightly below normal at 24.7°C, just 0.2°C lower than the previous night. Other regions reported the following minimum temperatures: Banihal 15.2°C, Batote 19.0°C, and Bhaderwah 15.6°C.

 

As the region braces for continued heat, the public is urged to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of the high temperatures.
