Newborn Dies in Gurez; Family Alleges Doctor’s Absence at PHC Sheikhpora

BANDIPORA October 14 (PTK); A newborn baby has died in north Kashmir’s Gurez area, triggering allegations of medical negligence by the family and raising concerns over healthcare access in the remote region.
According to reports, the family alleged that a doctor was absent from duty at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sheikhpora when medical assistance was needed. The incident has raised questions about the availability of healthcare services in the area.
However, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Gurez offered a different account, stating that the ambulance was unable to proceed on two occasions due to the closure of the road, which reportedly delayed the movement of the patient.
Meanwhile, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) said that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had been approached to facilitate road clearance.
The incident has once again highlighted the difficulties faced by residents of remote areas like Gurez, where road closures can severely affect access to emergency medical services.
The family’s allegations and the explanations provided by the officials have brought the circumstances surrounding the newborn’s death into focus. Further clarification is awaited(PTK)
