Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan Records Major Impact Across Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar, May 09 (PTK): The ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan has registered significant progress across Jammu and Kashmir, with authorities reporting massive public outreach, intensified enforcement against narcotics networks and strengthened rehabilitation mechanisms under the 100-day campaign.

According to official figures, a total of 2,16,123 awareness and outreach programmes involving over one crore participants have been organised across the Union Territory. The campaign included padyatras, school and college programmes, village-level awareness drives, youth engagement activities, seminars, rallies, sports and cultural events aimed at sensitising people about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The administration stated that counselling and mental health support services have also been strengthened, with the Tele-MANAS initiative receiving 2,786 calls during the campaign period, reflecting growing public trust in institutional counselling and addiction support systems.

Under treatment and rehabilitation initiatives, Addiction Treatment Facilities operated by the Health Department reportedly treated 44,602 patients, including 44,263 OPD cases and 339 IPD admissions, while 148 patients were successfully cured and discharged.

Similarly, rehabilitation centres operated by the Social Welfare Department received 441 patients and conducted counselling for 742 individuals, with 18 persons fully recovering during the period. Police-run counselling and rehabilitation centres also recorded 451 patient registrations, 786 counselling sessions and recovery of 138 individuals.

Authorities said the anti-narcotics crackdown under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been intensified, with 614 FIRs registered, 646 persons arrested and 435 alleged drug peddlers apprehended. Officials further stated that 160 drug hotspots were identified across the Union Territory.

As part of enforcement measures, 37 houses allegedly linked to drug trafficking were sealed or demolished, immovable properties worth around Rs 25.97 crore were seized or attached and additional properties worth Rs 3.70 crore demolished. Movable properties valued at Rs 1.67 crore were also seized during the campaign.

The administration further stated that action was taken against misuse of transport and pharmaceutical channels linked to narcotics activities, resulting in cancellation of 252 driving licences and 111 vehicle registrations, suspension of 104 drug store licences and cancellation of two licences.

Security and enforcement agencies also seized substantial quantities of narcotics, including 3.8 kilograms of heroin, 32.92 kilograms of charas and 222.31 kilograms of ganja, while illegal poppy cultivation spread over 21 marlas was destroyed.

As part of preventive vigilance measures, 3,067 chemist shops were inspected, 2,815 CCTV cameras installed at vulnerable locations and 977 schools and hospitals checked across the Union Territory.

The administration said intelligence-based action also led to examination of 107 suspects, identification of 2,807 alleged peddlers and execution of 11 PIT-NDPS detentions under preventive detention laws.

Reiterating its commitment towards a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, the administration appealed to citizens, community leaders, educational institutions, religious organisations and civil society groups to continue supporting the campaign and help safeguard the future of youth across the region.(PTK)
