Militant related incidents in J&K dropped by 32% in a year: Centre

SRINAGAR, JULY 28 (PTK): The Center on Wednesday said the number of militant related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir has come down drastically in the last two years. The government said in Parliament that there has been a 32 per cent decline in terrorist incidents till June 2021 as compared to the corresponding period till June 2020.

Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha also said that there has been a 59 percent reduction in the number of terrorist incidents during 2020 as compared to 2019.

Shops and business establishments, public transport, government offices, educational and health institutions and others are functioning normally in the Union Territory.

The government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and has taken various measures, such as strengthening the security apparatus, strict enforcement of law against anti-national elements, siege and siege to effectively deal with the challenges posed by terrorist organizations. Intensify the search operation, the minister said.

Security forces also keep a close watch on those who try to provide aid to terrorists and initiate action against them.

The government has consistently encouraged policies to help youth return to the mainstream, including providing them with employment opportunities to turn them away from terrorism.

“Sufficient forces have been deployed in Jammu and Kashmir to augment the counter insurgency grid, strengthen internal security and maintain law and order,” the minister said. (PTK)
