Militant killed in Verinag Gunfight
SRINAGAR, JUNE 8 (PTK): An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Anantnag’s Verinag district on Saturday morning.
According to reports, Jaish-e-Mohammed militant Mohammed Iqbal has been killed in the encounter. Reports said that a joint team of Army’s 19RR and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in Nowgam.
A senior police officer said that forces laid siege around suspected spot after having credible inputs about presence of some militants. The officer further said that there was a brief exchange of firing between militants and forces in which one jaish local militant was killed.
He added that however, right now there is no exchange firing from both sides but they have strengthened cordon and searches are going.
Four Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants, including two special police officers who had deserted the force recently, were on Friday killed in a similar encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A few days ago, suspected militants shot dead a territorial Army jawan, Manzoor Ahmad Beg, who was on leave, visiting his home for Eid, in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, officials said. (PTK)
