Militant killed in Shopian gunfight

SRINAGAR, JULY 05 (PTK): One militant was killed in an encounter which broke out on Friday morning between militants and security forces in Narwani area of Shopian.

“Police have recovered arms & ammunition from the site while identity & affiliation of the militant is yet to be ascertained”, a Statement issued reads.

The encounter comes just under a week after the security forces gunned down a militant on Sunday in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, following information about the presence of Militants there.

As the forces were conducting searches, the hiding militants fired upon them. The security forces retaliated the firing, triggering off a gunbattle.

Last Friday, a militant was killed in the same district during an encounter. Later, the slain terrorist was identified as a Pakistani national name Zarar who was affiliated to Jaish-e-Mohammed.

On June 23, four militants were killed down in Shopian district. (PTK)
