Mass Fish Mortality in Dal Lake merits thorough investigation: Kadfeen

SRINAGAR (PTK): Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary on Friday expressed serious concern over reports of mass fish mortality in Dal Lake. He has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.

“I express my deep distress and alarm over the recent incident of millions of dead fish floating on the waters of Dal Lake. This tragic event not only poses a severe threat to the fragile ecosystem of the lake but also jeopardizes the livelihoods of thousands of people who depend on the lake for their sustenance and income,” Kadfeen said.

He added that we demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to this mass fish mortality. It is essential to understand the causes behind this ecological disaster and hold accountable those responsible for any negligence or deliberate actions that may have contributed to this devastating outcome.

“We also raise concerns regarding the recent G20 meeting held in the vicinity, during which streets and water bodies were being embellished to create an aesthetically pleasing environment. We question whether some chemicals or substances may have been sprinkled into the Dal waters to artificially enhance its appearance, without considering the potential harm it could cause to the lake’s delicate ecosystem. If such actions have taken place, it is crucial to identify the responsible parties and take appropriate measures to rectify the damage caused.

Kadfeen said that preserving the ecological balance of Dal Lake is of utmost importance. “We call upon the concerned authorities, environmental agencies, and relevant stakeholders to take immediate action to assess the extent of the damage, restore the lake’s ecosystem, and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Additionally, we urge the government to provide support and alternative livelihood options for the affected individuals and communities dependent on the lake,” Kadfeen said.(PTK)
