The Jammu police have seized heroin worth ₹33 crore and arrested a Punjab resident in connection with the case. The high-value drug consignment was recovered at the Jammu bus stand, marking a substantial breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Anand Jain, announced the successful operation during a press conference on Friday. He revealed that the police acted on specific intelligence regarding two individuals carrying a suspicious large bag. “The Jammu police acted swiftly, apprehending one of the suspects and seizing the bag. Upon inspection, we discovered it contained high-quality heroin worth ₹33 crore. The arrested individual is a resident of Punjab, and further investigations are underway,” Jain stated.
When questioned about reports suggesting that the arrested individual might be a minor, Jain confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to determine the person’s exact age. “Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment was sourced from a border area. We are probing further to uncover the intended destination of the drugs and identify the individuals behind this operation,” the ADGP added.
This case adds to a growing list of drug-related arrests in the region. Jain highlighted that this is not the first instance of a Punjab resident being apprehended in Jammu for drug trafficking. However, he remained cautious about confirming whether the consignment was air-dropped by drones, stating that it remains a subject of investigation.
Jain also provided an update on the broader crackdown on drug rackets, noting that 23 individuals have been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their involvement in the drug trade. Additionally, properties valued at ₹14 crore, belonging to drug dealers, have been attached as part of the ongoing efforts to dismantle the narcotics network in the region.
This significant drug seizure underscores the growing challenge of drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir and the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat this menace.
