Lonely lady stages protest, demands release of her jailed husband

 

Says, in absence of husband, I am forced to beg outside shrines

 

Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar : A lonely woman staged a protest in the press colony area of Srinagar on Saturday morning, demanding her husband to be released or shifted to Srinagar Central jail from Udhampur.

The woman identified herself as identified as Saba, a Batamaloo resident, claimed that her husband has been lodged at Udhampur jail for the last three years.

 

 

 

She said that her husband called her three years ago informing her, “I have been detained and lodged in Udhampur Jail. I have been falsely implicated in some case.” She said that immediately after the arrest, she was forced out of her in-laws’ house when she was pregnant and was barely one month away from delivering a child.

“My husband Irfan Ahmad Mir, a resident of Tral was a driver and I don’t know what happened to him and why was he detained,” she said

 

Saba said that her financial condition is worse as she was financially dependent on her husband. “I have been forced to beg near Khanqahs of Makhdoom Sahib and Dastgeer Sahib in Srinagar to feed my 3-year-old daughter,” adding that her in-laws never even sought any news about the child.

 

“My parents were kind enough to let me enter their house after I was thrown out from my in-laws’ house, however, they are too old to support me, my brothers are living alone and they do not support us,” she said.

 

She said that her daughter has been ill for the last two years and no one is ready to offer help or show the right path. “Relatives have closed their doors for me and I was also thrown out from the house by my in-laws,” she said

 

she said, “I am helpless and I don’t have any resources to go and meet my husband or fight judicially for him, I cannot do much besides coming here to Press colony.” Saba said that she does not have enough money to meet her husband or pursue his case.

“I request the government to transfer him from Udhampur jail to Srinagar Central jail so that I can meet him and show him his daughter,” she appealed.

 

She requested IGP, DGP to release her husband on humanitarian ground.(PTK).
