SRINAGAR, MAY 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Election Department has taken stringent actions against 40 government employees for breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the Union Territory.
According to an official communiqué received today, four employees have been suspended, disciplinary actions have been initiated against one, and another has been disengaged from service. Additionally, inquiries have been launched against 34 employees for various MCC violations.
The swift actions come in response to daily online reports from District Election Officers and offline complaints submitted via the official email of the J&K Chief Electoral Officer. These complaints have been lodged by the general public, political party office bearers, and members of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
This enforcement is part of the Election Commission of India’s zero-tolerance policy towards MCC violations, aimed at ensuring free and fair elections.
The communiqué detailed that two employees were suspended in Kupwara, one in Ganderbal, and one in Doda district, with inquiries initiated against them. Disciplinary action has been recommended for one employee found engaging in political activities, and one chowkidar has been dismissed from service for similar misconduct. Additionally, one employee received a warning after pleading that their violation was unintentional.
Investigations are ongoing against 34 employees, including six gazetted officers, and will proceed as per Election Commission directives.
The highest number of violations were reported from Srinagar district, followed by Kulgam and Rajouri. Udhampur and Ganderbal districts recorded the third highest number of violations, while the lowest incidences were reported from Kishtwar, Bandipora, Reasi, and Samba districts.
This stringent enforcement underscores the commitment to upholding electoral integrity and maintaining public trust in the democratic process.
