Let Srinagar be like Srinagar, not Delhi or Mumbai: Kadfeen

SRINAGAR: Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary on Monday while reacting to the claims that Srinagar should be made like Delhi and Mumbai said that it is important to restore Srinagar like Srinagar only as the city has immense historical significance and cultural value.

Kasdeen said that Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and unique identity. The city’s heritage includes its iconic Mughal gardens, traditional handicrafts, and unique architecture that reflects its multicultural influences. However, over the years, Srinagar’s heritage has faced numerous threats, including environmental degradation, urbanization, and political unrest. These challenges have taken a toll on the city’s cultural identity and have put its heritage sites at risk.

He added that there is no need to make this beautiful and elegant city look like any urban slum of Delhi or Mumbai wherein people have to purchase air purifiers to breathe the sae air. Kadfeen said that Srinagar must be restored to its original glory. “Preserving Srinagar’s heritage and protecting its unique identity is of paramount importance. The restoration of heritage sites, such as the famous Dal Lake and the Mughal Gardens, and the promotion of traditional handicrafts can not only revive the city’s cultural heritage but also provide an opportunity for economic growth and job creation,” Kadfeen said.

He added that the government and civil society organizations must work together to develop sustainable tourism strategies that promote responsible tourism and contribute to the preservation of the city’s heritage. It is also crucial to involve local communities in the preservation process, creating a sense of ownership and pride in their heritage. “By preserving Srinagar’s heritage and protecting its unique identity, we can ensure that the city continues to be a source of pride for its people and a treasure for generations to come,” Kadfeen said.
