Mayor to move resolution to rename Haft Chinar Chowk-Jehangir Chowk stretch to ‘Shaheed Makhan Lal Bindroo Road

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 06 (PTK): The road from Haft Chinar Chowk to Jehangir Chowk, where Bindroo’s medical store is located, will be named Shaheed Makhan Lal Bindroo Road as a tribute to Makhan Lal Bindroo’s contributions to society, said Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu on Wednesday.

The owner of Bindroo Medicate, Makhan Lal Bindroo was fired upon by militants on Tuesday near Iqbal Park in Srinagar. He succumbed to his injuries.

“The road from Haft Chinar Chowk to Jehangir Chowk (where Bindroo Medicate is located) will be named Shaheed Makhan Lal Bindroo Road as a tribute to his contributions to society. A resolution to this effect will be formally proposed in the SMC General Council,” the mayor tweeted.

Bindroo (68) was shot at from point-blank range, and was declared dead despite being rushed to the hospital immediately.

He was one of the few from the Kashmiri Pandit community who did not migrate out of the Valley during the massive exodus in the 1990s due to militancy. He and his wife stayed back to continue their business, which was even then a trusted name for quality medicines.

According to the police, Bindroo had suffered four gunshot wounds.

Militant group The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be the shadow outfit of the Pakistan-based Lasker-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s killings. (PTK)
