Residents of Kangan in Ganderbal district, Central Kashmir, took to the streets in protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) due to the non-availability of electricity in several areas during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The protest escalated as locals blocked the highway at the Main Market, expressing frustration over the lack of electricity during such a crucial time. Women in the community voiced their concerns, highlighting the difficulties faced during Ramadan.

The demonstration disrupted traffic movement on the National Highway for approximately 15-20 minutes as protestors aired their grievances and demanded better service from the PDD. They criticized the department for frequent power outages and blamed it for hindering the preparation of students for ongoing board exams.

The villagers of Kangan expressed their frustration with the inadequate power infrastructure, particularly citing breakdowns of power transformers. They warned of further blockades on the National Highway if the PDD failed to address their demands promptly.

The protest came to an end after local authorities intervened and promised to escalate the issue to higher authorities within the PDD for resolution. The incident underscores the pressing need for improved electricity services in the region, especially during critical periods like Ramadan and academic examinations.
