JK Bank employees, political parties hit streets against SAC decision
SRINAGAR, NOV 29 (PTK): Following the state administrative council’s (SAC) decision to turn the bank into a public sector undertaking (PSU) political parties and JK Bank employees protest against the decision against Governor administration in Srinagar demanding roll back of state administrative council’s (SAC) decision to turn the bank into a public sector undertaking (PSU).
Jammu and Kashmir Bank employees call for protests was issued by All India J&K Bank officers Federation. Dozens of employees assembled at the corporate headquarters of the bank on MA road in Srinagar and staged a protest demonstration.
Meanwhile Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also took out a protest rally demanding the revocation of the recent government order on J&K Bank.
Scores of PDP leaders and activists led by former works minister Naeem Akhtar took out a protest rally from the party headquarters and marched towards the Press Enclave in Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
However, a police party intercepted them at Polo View and prevented them from marching ahead.
The protesters were chanting slogans like ‘JK bank hamara hai’, and ‘roll back roll back SAC decision roll back’.
“Turning J&K Bank into a PSU is an assault on the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. We want to tell governor Sahab to revoke it,” said Akhtar while talking to reporters. “We won’t relent (until the order is revoked).”
Meanwhile Former legislators—Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Ghulam Hassan Mir and Hakeem Yaseen alos asked the governor-led administration to reconsider the order on J&K Bank while criticising it for failing to bring respite to the people in the state.
The leaders, in a joint statement, welcomed the decision to bring the Jammu and Kashmir Bank under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) act, the Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) guidelines and the State Legislature.
“However, the decision of the state administrative council (SAC) to turn the bank into a public sector undertaking (PSU) is unwarranted and must be reconsidered,” said the statement, issued by the trio. (PTK)
