J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Village Level Worker for Accepting Bribe in Kupwara

Kupwara: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Nazir Ahmad, a Village Level Worker (VLW) from Block Vilgam, Kupwara, on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The bribe was reportedly solicited for processing the final installment under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in favor of a local resident.
The ACB received a complaint via their helpline from a resident of the village Kukrossa in Kupwara. The complainant, a financially disadvantaged individual, had a PMAY case sanctioned in his favor by the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Vilgam. He had already received two installments of ₹50,000 and ₹75,000 respectively, credited directly to his bank account. However, despite the passage of time, the final installment of ₹50,000, which was due in March 2024, had not been released.
The complainant alleged that he made several visits to the BDO office in Vilgam, but his payment was repeatedly withheld by Nazir Ahmad, the VLW of the concerned block. Ahmad allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 for the release of the final payment. Faced with these demands, the complainant approached the ACB through their helpline (9419678060) to seek legal action against the VLW.
