Indian Coast Guard Chief Rakesh Pal Dies of Cardiac Arrest in Chennai

Chennai, Aug 18: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Director General Rakesh Pal passed away today following a cardiac arrest at a government hospital in Chennai, Defence sources confirmed. Pal, who was in the city to participate in an ICG event alongside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was rushed to the state-run Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGH) after he reported feeling unwell earlier in the day.
Details surrounding the sudden demise of the 59-year-old officer have not been fully disclosed, but sources stated that he was admitted to RGGH after experiencing uneasiness. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, Pal succumbed to his condition.
The news of his death led to an outpouring of grief within the Defence community. Upon learning of Pal’s demise, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who was also in Chennai to release a commemorative coin marking the birth centenary of late DMK President M Karunanidhi, promptly visited the hospital to pay his respects.
DG Rakesh Pal’s career with the Indian Coast Guard has been distinguished, marked by his leadership in several critical operations aimed at safeguarding India’s maritime borders.
