HM Amit Shah visits slain SHO’s residence, holds security meet
SRINAGAR, JUNE 27 (PTK): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday met the family members of Jammu and Kashmir Police inspector Arshad Ahmed Khan, who was killed in a Militant attack.
Arshad Khan, SHO Anantnag, was killed on June 12 when a lone Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant targeted a patrol team of the paramilitary force. Five CRPF personnel were killed and three others were injured in the Militant attack.
Khan was rushed to AIIMS in Delhi where he succumbed to his injuries during the treatment.
Amid tight security arrangements, Shah visited the family at around 9:15 am alongside top Home Ministry officials. Shah assured Arshad’s wife and father of government’s assistance and also played with the martyr’s two little children. He later offered a job to the martyr’s wife.
Shah also reviewed the overall security situation in the state with special emphasis on restoration of peace in Kashmir and counter-insurgency operations. He arrived here Wednesday on his maiden visit to the state after taking over the charge of the Home Ministry, signifying the importance given to Jammu and Kashmir by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
Political parties of the Valley appreciated Shah’s gesture and hoped for the announcement of new measures to ensure peace in the state.
“Home Minister’s visit is a welcome move, but he should also make some positive announcement,” said Jammu and Kashmir National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar. “Elections should be held in the state, the political solution of Kashmir is also needed,” he added.
This was Shah’s first official visit outside the union capital after assuming charge.
On Wednesday, the Home Minister chaired a high-level meeting of civil administration officials and top bosses of various security agencies in the state.
The Home Minister was briefed about the overall security situation in the state, especially in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack in which over 40 CRPF personnel were killed.
Shah was also briefed about the steps taken for ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the annual Amarnath Yatra, which is due to commence on July 1. The Yatra is starting from July 1 and has been a major worry for the forces after 12 June Anantnag attack on joint forces. (PTK)
