Gurez Valley Blanketed by Heavy Snowfall on April 19, 2025
Bandipora, Apr 19 (PTK): Gurez Valley in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district experienced a significant weather event today, April 19, 2025, as heavy snowfall blanketed the region, disrupting daily life and transportation.
According to the latest weather reports, Gurez received an additional 6–12 cm of snow, with temperatures hovering around -2°C during the day and dropping to -8°C at night.
The fresh snowfall led to the closure of the Bandipora-Gurez road at Razdan Top, a critical mountain pass that connects Gurez Valley to the rest of the Kashmir Valley. The pass, situated at an elevation of 3,556 meters, is prone to closure during winter months due to heavy snow accumulation.
Local authorities have initiated snow clearance operations to restore connectivity, but the ongoing adverse weather conditions may delay the process. Residents are advised to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until the situation improves.
This late-season snowfall serves as a reminder of the region’s unpredictable weather patterns and the challenges faced by its residents during the winter months. (PTK)
