Number of developmental schemes launched to generate employment avenues to unemployed youth

Press trust of kashmir | Ganderbal :At a time when unemployment has been a grave concem, hundreds of educated youths in Ganderbal have given up the dream of getting a Govt. Job. They are searching new avenues and ventures for creating their own space Ganderhal through which famous sindh stream flows have a great potential of fisheries.
Fish farming is fast emerging as a potential sector for providing vocation for the rural unemployed youths bere in Cianderbal District. The fish farms in the private sector has increased manifold with hundreds of people getting attracted towards this trade in Ganderbal District.
Director Fisheries Mr. Bashir Ahmad Bhat told the Press Trust of kashmir that the Government has strengthened the fisheries sector to make it a useful instrument of economic growth especially in Ganderbal District. He said a number of developmental and welfare schemes have been launched for providing assistance to rural poor unemployed youths for taking up fish culture.
Fish farming especially of trout with improvised technology application is providing to be a bullying economic indicator besides supplementing protein in the diet.
The Fisheries Department is extending technical knowhow in this regard so that they can produce quality product and get ruminative price. Fish growers all over the district are getting latest technical knowhow in fish culture. The experts interact with the fish growers regularly to boost the fish farming in the District. During the last year 2020-21, the department under the centrally sponsored scheme Pradhan Mantri Matysa Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) has constructed 16 nos of Trout ponds and 06 nos of carp ponds.
Under Pradhan Mantri Matysa Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) the Department provides a subsidy of Rs. 2.20 lacs for construction of trout units in private sector for general category and for women category the subsidy component is 3.30 lacs for establishment of a trout unit.
For establishment of a carp unit the department under Pradhan Mantri Matysa Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) scheme provides a subsidy component of 0.744 lacs for general category and for SC/ST women the subsidy component is 1.016 lacs.
Today on 21-08-2021 Director Fisheries Mr.Bashir Ahmad Bhat in presence of Joint Director Fisheries North Mr. Irshad Ahmad Shah and Assistant Director Fisheries Gunderbal Mr. Ghulam. Jeelani Pandith distributed the equipments like fish handle nets, covering nets. Drags nets and weighing balance etc among the private farmers who have established their trout/ carp units during the year 2020-21 under the scheme Pradhan Mantri Matysa Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) at trout fish farm Mammer Kangan.
Also the Director Fisheries has stocked 20000 fingerling of Rainbow trout in the sindh stream at Sonamarg and at Kullan. The stocking was carried in order to replenish the livestocks of the sindh stream with quality trout fish seed. The stocking of the stream will boost the fish production in the stream so that the anglers will enjoy a good fishing and hence will promote tourism in the District as well.(PTK).
