In India’s Jammu and Kashmir, Ganderbal is both a town and a district and Ganderbal’s region formerly served as a gateway to Central Asia by serving as one of the most significant stops along the ancient Silk Road.
In 1133 AD, Rajatarangini refers to this location as Gandharvana.
Since Sir Aurel Stein initially established and explored Ganderbal by setting up camp there in the summer of 1895.

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR | GANDERBAL:- which takes its name from a well-known spring called Ganderbhavan, but with time, the name was changed from Gander Bhavan to Ganderbal, which is now a recognized and official name.
On October 26, 1947, Jammu and Kashmir became a state; which comes in India’s nothern region, and Ganderbal is one of the Jammu and Kashmir’s most stunning districts, rich of natural beauty and notable for several historical sites.

Located at the outskirts of Srinagar, Ganderbal district is a beautiful vale’ which was separated from District Srinagar in April 2007 and given the status of a district, surrounded by mountains and filled with breath taking scenery. Sonmarg, Manasbal, Mohandmarg, Gangbal, Harmukh, Naranag, are some famous outing spots of ganderbal district.
District Ganderbal offers a world-class potential for tourism, with attractions ranging from historical and religious buildings to its stunning natural environment (rivers, mountains, lakes, plateaus, water falls, gushing water springs, wild animals, lush green forests, and grazing pastures).

Additionally, the Sindh valley was a conduit for Islamic influence into Kashmir. The first Kashmiri monarch Rinchan Shah, Hazrat Shahi Hamdan, and Mirza Hyder Daughlat all visited Kashmir through Ganderbal, which was formerly known as the Sindh Valley due to the river Sindh’s 100-kilometer path through the province and its extensive 1556-kilometer basin.
The Sindh valley and the district are now interchangeable because the district encompasses the whole river’s watershed.
Some of the holiest pilgrimage sites are located in District Ganderbal, including the tranquil spring of Kherbhawani and the Holy Amarnath cave. Sonamarg, a popular tourist destination, Mansbal Lake, Qamar Sahib, and Baba Hyder(RA) Tullamula, as well as Sindh Stream, which adds to the area’s appeal and fame, can all help this region become more popular as a destination for tourists and pilgrims alike.
