Fake Journalist Arrested Alongside Associate for Extorting Money in South Kashmir: Police

Jammu and Kashmir police have apprehended a man who was impersonating a journalist, along with his accomplice, for allegedly extorting money from residents in Rahmoo Pulwama.

 

According to a statement released by a police spokesman, the Pulwama police arrested Abass Ahmad Seh, son of Mohd Akbar Seh, a resident of Nagbal, along with his associate, Sheraz Ahamed Dar, son of Mohammad Ameen Dar, residing in Urpara Nagbal Shopian.

 

The accused individuals purportedly presented themselves as journalists and demanded money from the homeowner, Mohd Shafi Rather, son of Gh Nabi Rather, a resident of Rahmoo. Their demand was based on not exposing certain activities, such as construction on Khacharie, owned by Rather.

 

Following their arrest, the police recovered a fake identity card and mobile phones from the accused persons.

 

Case FIR no 19/2024 has been registered under sections 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code at PS Rajpora. The investigation into the matter has been initiated, as stated by the police spokesman.
