Empowerment Camp by 34 Assam Rifles at Gund, Ganderbal: Providing Mobility and Independence to Specially Abled

Press Trust of Kashmir  | Ganderbal  :-a groundbreaking initiative, the Army joined hands with Voice of SAP, Spreading Smiles NGOs of Ahmedabad, and HOPE NGO of Ganderbal to organize an Empowerment Camp at Gund on February 8, 2024. The camp aimed not only to empower specially-abled individuals through skill-building but also to provide essential tools for increased mobility and self-sustainability.

 

Specially-abled people from villages including Gagangir, Rezan, Kullan, Ramwari, Gund, Fraw Haknar, Sumbal Bala, Sarpharo, Mamer, and Kangan were pre-examined on November 19, 2023, with the selection of beneficiaries based on recommendations from qualified doctors at Kangan, Mamer, and Gund Army Camps of 34 Assam Rifles. This camp served as a Beacon of Hope for the underprivileged specially-abled people of Kangan sub-division in the Ganderbal district.

 

Key objectives of the camp included the distribution of wheelchairs and tricycles for enhanced mobility, provision of hearing aids to individuals with hearing impairments, empowerment through sewing machines for economic independence, and comprehensive health services provided by the Medical officer of 34 Assam Rifles, including medical check-ups and free medicines for those in need.

 

This unique empowerment camp surpassed traditional support by providing tangible tools for enhanced mobility, economic independence, and overall well-being. The collaborative efforts of the Army and NGOs have left a lasting impact, fostering a society where specially-abled individuals can lead fulfilling lives with dignity and pride.
