Director SKIMS Reviews Medical Preparedness for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024

Srinagar, June 27, 2024: Director SKIMS, Prof. (Dr.) M. Ashraf Ganie, conducted a meeting today to review the preparedness of SKIMS in connection with the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024. SKIMS, designated as a tertiary care hospital for pilgrims requiring special medical intervention, has made extensive arrangements to ensure the health and safety of the yatris.Expressing his satisfaction with the preparations, Director Ganie emphasized that the care provided to these patients would position them as brand ambassadors for SKIMS, thereby enhancing the institution’s reputation. He instructed the officials to formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to assist pilgrims with medical comorbidities both this year and in future Yatras.The Medical Superintendent of SKIMS detailed the arrangements, highlighting the reservation of an 18-bed disaster ward specifically for the pilgrims. Other augmented facilities include dedicated ventilators in the Neuro, Pulmonary, and Critical Care ICUs, a critical care ambulance, helipad services at SKIMS, and critical care transport to and from Nehru Helipad. Additionally, dedicated yatri attendants and a separate team of resident doctors will be available in the Emergency Medicine department for immediate treatment.In the event of any emergency, a 40-50 bed infectious disease block, fully equipped with necessary facilities, is ready to be operational. The IT In-Charge informed that SKIMS’s robust telemedicine facility would function 24/7, with experts from various specialties on call to assist the Yatra patients.The meeting was attended by the Medical Superintendent, Heads of Departments from Anaesthesiology, General Medicine, Hospital Administration, Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care, as well as faculty from General Surgery, In-Charges from Pharmacy, Nursing, IT, D&T, and other supportive services.
