DDC Rajouri reviews functioning of Fisheries Department

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR RAJOURI, DECEMBER 10: District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal today chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the Fisheries Department.

About the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in the district, the AD Fisheries informed the meeting that the scheme aims to enhance production through expansion, intensification, diversification and productive utilization of land and water.

He also apprised that as many as 9 ponds were approved under PMMSY this year and 7 beneficiaries have been selected. Under the Capex Budget, 5 ponds were approved, including three of Carb and two of Trout.

While addressing the meeting, the DDC emphasised on extending adequate handholding to the beneficiaries. He also asked to hold regular meetings with the farmers and put in place dedicated efforts to raise their per capita income.

The DDC also stressed carrying out social auditing of the activities of the farmers and taking measures to further ameliorate their socio-economic status.

He said that with the abundant availability of water resources, the district has a huge potential in the fisheries sector and asked the concerned officer to promote it as a lucrative self-employment option.
