DCO Ramban inspects medical stores

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR RAMBAN, AUGUST 27: Continuing its drive, the Drug and Food Control Organization, Ramban inspected several medical stores in Sub-division Banihal to check the quality, safe and efficacious medicines for the patients.

The Drug Control Officer, Ramban, Imtiyaz Ahmed conducted extensive inspection in villages Ashar, Zinhal, and Kaskoot of Banihal area and sealed 2 medical stores on the spot for violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.

 The drive was conducted on the directions of the Deputy Controller Drugs, Drug & Food Control Department, Jammu and was aimed at to curb the misuse of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

To ensure quality, safe and efficacious medicines for the patients, five drug samples were also lifted on a random basis in order to ascertain quality parameters and will be sent to the State Testing Laboratory.

 Further, it is impressed upon the chemist fraternity to follow the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetic act and rules there under in letter and spirit failing which the department shall be constrained to initiate action against the violators.

The Chemists were instructed not to sell any drug without a prescription and maintain sale records properly and check the expiry date on each product before selling medicine to patients. Further chemists were instructed to maintain all records of Psychotropic drugs as per the Drug & Cosmetic Act 1940.

Locals of the respective village were requested to inform the department as and when they found anyone indulging in the illegal sale/stocking of medicines. They were advised to desist from visiting any unregistered medical stores and self-styled doctors, so as to avoid any kind of risk to life.
