DC Ramban chairs NARCO Coordination Committee meet
Asks stakeholders to intensify measures to eradicate drug menace
PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR RAMBAN, NOVEMBER 17: Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam today chaired a meeting of the District-level NARCO Coordination Committee (NCORD) to review the measures taken to curb the drug abuse and narcotics trade in the district.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal Sharma; Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Gias-ul-Haq and Additional SP, Rajni Sharma attended the meeting in person, while Tehsildars and Station House Officers and other members of the Committee attended the meeting through virtual mode.
Reviewing the action taken on directions issued during the last meeting, the DC directed the Health and Police departments to submit a report of drug-addicted persons who are under treatment in hospitals and other drug de-addiction centers. He also asked ADC to seek a report from Sarpanchs regarding addicted youth and the action taken to weed out cannabis cultivation in their respective panchayats.

The DC suggested a string of measures and asked the Committee to work in unison at different levels to combat drug trafficking and ensure better coordination among the Civil and Police administration.
The meeting discussed a host of issues related to the incidents of drug addiction, areas of concern, age group of addicts, hot spots of drug users and illicit cultivation of poppy and cannabis in the district.
Informing the meeting that the issue has already been taken up with concerned authorities for establishing drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers in the districts, the DC directed Tehsildars and SHOs to adopt a coordinated approach for the destruction of illicit poppy and cannabis cultivations in their respective jurisdictions. He stressed upon all stakeholders to launch a massive awareness campaign across the district, involving people from all walks of life including school children, youth, PRIs, and the target public.
The ADC informed that the administration has conducted a month-long Anti Drug drive under Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir campaign in which the district-level Committee of NCORD comprising Police and Civil departments besides PRIs, participated in coordination with each other to curb the drug abuse and narcotics trade in district Ramban.
The Addl. SP gave a detailed presentation and apprised the members about the overall scenario of drug abuse in the district and measures being taken up to curb the menace with an iron hand.
