DC Pulwama initiates action against Contractor for using substandard material

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR PULWAMA, SEPTEMBER 20: Taking cognizance of a public complaint against the use of substandard material for constructing a Public convenience at Palpora Pulwama, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer ul Haq Chowdary passed orders for terminating the contract.
On receiving the complaint regarding the use of substandard material for the construction of a public convenience, the DC acted promptly and deputed a team led by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDCP) Pulwama, Dr Abdul Aziz Sheikh along with Ex. Engineer REW to the spot to have a firsthand report of the complaint.
An official spokesperson said that a factual report submitted by ADDC Pulwama prima facie revealed that the execution of the work was compromised on quality standards and substandard material has been used thus violating the terms and conditions of the contract.

The DC later passed directions for dismantling the foundation/plinth work and orders were passed for termination of the contract.
This is probably for the first time that such a strong administrative action has been taken in connection with substandard works in the constructions.
The DC said that administration is committed towards peoples welfare/ development and there is a policy of zero tolerance against digression from the principles of ensuring an inclusive, accountable and responsive administration. He appealed to people to come forward and participate in nation building and act as agents of ensuring transparency.
