DC Kathua reviews Road Safety scenario at District Road Safety Committee meet
PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR KATHUA, DECEMBER 27: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was today held here under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rahul Pandey.
The meeting was attended by RTO, ACR, CMO, District Education Planning Officer, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B), AEE PWD (R&B) Basohli, Executive Engineer, Irrigation, representative of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and other members.
Detailed discussions were held with respect to enforcement of Traffic rules, formulation of awareness activity calendar, road safety activities, identification of black spots and road safety audit etc.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that road safety requires effective implementation of measures to make the roads safe for travelling, minimizing road mishaps, injuries and deaths. He called for spreading mass awareness about the safety rules and taking corrective measures to make the roads safe for commuters.
The DC directed the XEN PWD (R&B) Kathua to improve road markings and signage on high risk stretches, black spots and make improvement of junctions on all cross-roads.

The PWD(R&B) was directed to ensure regular maintenance of the roads to avoid road accidents besides identifying the black spots and taking corrective measures in accident prone areas by fixing sign boards and installing crash barriers.
The DC directed SRTC authorities to revive bus service on Basohli-Bani route besides extending bus service to uncovered areas of the district.
The DC, while stressing on the need to educate the masses about the road safety rules, directed the RTO Kathua to organise special road safety awareness camps and motivate people to follow the golden rules of traffic.
For strict enforcement of the traffic rules, the DC asked the MVA and traffic authorities to carry out special drives and take stern action against the violators.
The DC directed CEO Kathua MC, DTI to identify locations for Taxi and Auto Stands at convenient places within municipal limits of Kathua town.
The meeting also discussed issues ranging from installation of traffic lights, fixing of potholes, display of signages of speed limit, emergency helpline numbers and further impressing upon concerned officers to submit action taken report at the earliest.
