Amit Sharma Chairs Meeting on Ongoing House Listing Operations for Census 2027
Budgam, June 5 (PTK): Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, on Thursday chaired a review meeting in Budgam to assess the preparedness and progress of the ongoing House Listing Operations (HLO) being conducted under Census 2027.
The meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex, Budgam, and was attended by Deputy Commissioner Budgam and Principal Census Officer Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, along with other senior officers associated with the Census exercise.
At the outset, Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Census Officer Budgam, Mehraj-Ud-Din Shah, presented a detailed overview of the district’s preparedness for Census 2027. He briefed the meeting on the geographical profile of the district, training programmes being conducted for census personnel and the arrangements made for smooth implementation of the House Listing Operations, which are underway from June 1 to June 30, 2026.
The Deputy Commissioner informed the meeting that all necessary administrative and logistical arrangements have been put in place to ensure seamless conduct of census-related activities across the district. He stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders and reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive coverage and quality data collection during the enumeration process.
He also directed field-level officers to extend full support to census personnel and ensure strict adherence to the prescribed guidelines.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding comprehensive household coverage, inclusion of migratory populations and strengthening field-level operations to ensure accuracy and completeness of the Census exercise.
Addressing the officers, Amit Sharma appreciated the efforts of field staff and urged enumerators and supervisors to perform their duties with dedication, professionalism and responsibility.
He emphasized the importance of effective coordination among census functionaries, timely and accurate data collection and strict compliance with Census guidelines to ensure successful implementation of the exercise.
The CPCO directed all concerned officers to provide full support to Census personnel and facilitate smooth conduct of House Listing and Housing Census activities throughout the district.
Amit Sharma also informed that citizens can contact the dedicated Census 2027 toll-free helpline number 1855 for any information, assistance or clarification related to the Census process.
He appealed to the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent calls, messages or individuals falsely claiming association with the Census exercise and cautioned citizens against sharing personal, banking, financial or OTP-related information with anyone in the name of Census.
Clarifying the process, Sharma stated that Census 2027 is a transparent and straightforward exercise and that citizens are only required to answer the prescribed 33 Census questions during enumeration.
He urged residents to cooperate fully with authorized Census personnel and provide accurate information to ensure the success of the country’s largest administrative and statistical exercise.
Joint Chief Principal Census Officer Arun Kumar also briefed participants regarding the monitoring framework for field operations and highlighted the importance of real-time supervision and tracking of data collection activities.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Census Officer, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Charge Officers, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer, District Coordinator Census 2027 Budgam and other concerned officers and officials.
Reiterating the significance of the Census, Amit Sharma said that the exercise forms the foundation for evidence-based policymaking, development planning and welfare initiatives across the country.(PTK)
