Chief conservator of Forests participates in Dal cleanliness Drive

 

Srinagar April 22(PTK) Chief Conservator of Forests on Friday participated in the initiative of Dal Cleaning Drive “Athwas”, organized by the J&K Lake Conservation and Management Authority.

This cleanliness initiative was flagged off by the Lt Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha who has given tremendous importance to the protection of the environment.

Conservator was welcomed by Gazalla Abdullah and other officials of LCMA. He was escorted by the students of Islamia college Srinagar. They enjoyed removing of weeds from the Dal Lake through sticks and loaded it on the nearby “Shikaras” which is the traditional method of de-weeding the water bodies.

Children enjoyed this ceremony and raised slogans to save Dal Lake.

They said it is our duty to keep our environment and water bodied clean and every one must do his bit in keeping dal clean

kashmir is paradise only because of Dal Lake and we shouldn’t litter in it, they said.

Speaking on the occasion Chief conservator of Forests T Rabi Kumar said that it is not merely a water body like other lakes, but is source of livelihood for thousands of people who run House Boats & Shikaras for the tourists.

Lakhs of tourists as well as migratory birds visit Dal every year and it is the pious duty of all citizens to protect the beauty of this lake,” he said.

According to PTK,The Conservator of Forests congratulated LCMA for initiating this programme. He said that Dal Lake is getting cleaner and appreciated the efforts taken by LCMA.

He said saving water and conservation of water bodies is our utmost priority and this is the duty of each and every person to get involved and help in maintaining the glory of the lake.(PTK)
