JAMMU, Aug 7: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested three individuals, including a revenue department official, for demanding and accepting a bribe in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said.
The CBI registered a case based on a complaint from a property buyer in Jib village, Udhampur. The complaint alleged that a property dealer demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 on behalf of a patwari for issuing a revenue extract for a property the complainant’s father was purchasing, a CBI spokesperson reported.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI set a trap and caught the property dealer red-handed while accepting the bribe. In a series of subsequent actions, a middleman was apprehended as he accepted the bribe from the property dealer, and finally, the patwari was arrested while receiving the bribe from the middleman.
The CBI conducted searches at the residences of the accused and is continuing its investigation. All three accused will be presented before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, in Jammu, the spokesman added.
