CBI Arrests Patwari and Chowkidar in Bribery Case in J&K’s Samba District

 

SAMBA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Tuesday the arrest of a Patwari and his associate, a Chowkidar, in the Halqa Nanga panchayat of Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district. The arrests were made in connection with a case involving the acceptance of a bribe.

 

The arrested individuals were identified as Varun Choudhary, the Patwari, and Dayal Chand, the Chowkidar.

 

According to officials, the arrest followed a complaint alleging that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant in exchange for issuing Girdawari land owned by him.

 

“CBI laid a trap, and during the proceedings, the accused instructed the complainant to hand over the bribe amount to his associate, a Chowkidar in Halqa Nanga, District Samba (J&K). Both the accused were apprehended during the transaction of a bribe of Rs 9,000,” stated an official release.

 

In addition to the arrests, searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused as part of the ongoing investigation.

 

The arrested individuals are scheduled to appear before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu, on March 27, 2024, as per the official statement issued to news agency  Press Trust of Kashmir.
