Body of One Laborer Recovered, Two Still Missing After Bridge Collapse

URI/Kashmir : In a tragic incident last week, a dilapidated bridge over the river Jhelum in the Mohura area collapsed, resulting in three laborers falling into the river. Today, authorities confirmed that the body of one of the laborers has been recovered, while the search continues for the other two.

According to reports from the Press Trust of Kashmir, on March 3rd, three laborers were dislocating the old bridge when it gave way, plunging them into the Jhelum river at Mohura. Following the collapse, a joint effort involving the Uri police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defense, and local residents was initiated to locate the missing individuals.

After seven days of intensive search operations, the body of one laborer was discovered by SDRF personnel and local volunteers at Razarwani Uri, downstream from the site of the incident. However, efforts to locate the remaining two laborers are ongoing.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the risks faced by laborers and the importance of maintaining infrastructure to prevent such tragedies. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, and we hope for the safe recovery of the missing individuals.
