Srinagar, August 19: After 52 days of uninterrupted spiritual fervor, the annual Amarnath Yatra will conclude on Monday, marking the end of a pilgrimage that saw nearly five lakh devotees pay their respects at the sacred cave shrine. The Yatra, which commenced on June 29 this year, unfolded smoothly and peacefully, largely due to stringent security measures and the unwavering cooperation of the local populace.

The final leg of the journey began this morning as the ‘Chhari Mubarak’—a silver mace symbolizing Lord Shiva—was carried by Mahant Swami Deependra Giri from Panchtarni to the holy cave, located 3,888 meters above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas. Accompanied by Sadhus and devotees chanting “Bum Bum Bhole” and reciting Vedic hymns, the procession moved with solemn reverence toward the shrine.

The Amarnath cave, revered by devotees for its ice stalagmite that waxes and wanes with the lunar cycle, is believed to embody the mystical powers of Lord Shiva. The Yatra is not just a religious journey but a test of devotion and endurance, with the faithful braving harsh terrains and high altitudes to seek the deity’s blessings.

This year’s Yatra was notable for its high-security arrangements. The route from Jammu to the base camps at Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam) was closely monitored, with the ubiquitous presence of police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The transit camps were equipped with advanced security technology, ensuring the safety of the pilgrims. The local community also played a significant role in the peaceful conduct of the Yatra, underscoring the spirit of communal harmony.

The Chhari Mubarak, which set out from its base at Dashnami Akhara temple in Srinagar on August 14, passed through various temples en route to Pahalgam, where it halted for two nights. The onward journey to the cave shrine commenced on August 16.

Swami Deependra Giri, the custodian of the Chhari Mubarak, expressed his satisfaction with the arrangements made by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and the Union Territory administration. He praised the improved facilities, including the widening of the track leading to the shrine, which has accommodated an increased influx of pilgrims.

As the Yatra concludes with traditional puja and rituals, daylong prayers for world peace and the prosperity of humankind will be offered at the cave shrine. Special prayers will also be dedicated to the peace and prosperity of the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, which is considered the abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

The success of this year’s Amarnath Yatra is a testament to the dedication of the pilgrims, the efficiency of the security forces, and the cooperation of the local people, who together ensured an incident-free pilgrimage season.
