Anantnag Police Bust Major Interstate Drug Trafficking Network

Anantnag, Oct 12 : Police in Anantnag have dismantled a major interstate drug trafficking network, leading to the arrest of three individuals involved in the illegal trade. The operation followed credible intelligence regarding a narcotics consignment being transported from Delhi to Srinagar.

The police established multiple checkpoints along the route, and during a routine inspection at Doonipora Bijbehra, a Toyota vehicle with three occupants was intercepted. The individuals have been identified as Monty Singh, a resident of Bulandshahar (UP), and Ashish Bardawaj and Rahul, both residents of Chhatarpur (New Delhi). Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 413 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (NRX), branded as Codril-T, which had been concealed within the car’s door panels. All three suspects were immediately taken into custody and are currently being held at Police Station Bijbehara.

Further investigation revealed that the consignment was intended for distribution in Sopore and Srinagar. In a swift follow-up, multiple raids were conducted, resulting in the detention of a local smuggler from Sopore, who is now being questioned. Collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in New Delhi also led to a raid at a warehouse in Sector 135, Noida, where a significant quantity of Codeine was seized.

The primary suspects behind the network have been identified as Sachin Rana and Arun Rana, both residents of Faridabad. Efforts to apprehend them are ongoing, and further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses. This operation has exposed the forward and backward linkages of the interstate drug trafficking network.

Authorities have praised the swift action and collaboration between local law enforcement and the NCB, marking it as a major victory in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.
