After brief exchange of fire, militants managed to escaped in Kulgam

SRINAGAR 11 APRIL PTK) TMilitants managed to escape after brief exchange of fire in Nandimarg area of Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam district.

Officials said that after initial exchange of fire at around 1:30 am, search operation was launched in the area however no contact was established.

Earlier encounter broke out between government forces and militants, after a joint team of forces including 9 RR and Kulgam Police launched search operation in the area.

Officials said that as forces intensified search operation towards the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon forces which was retialated trigerring an encounter.

However after initial exchange of fire, militants managed to escape taken advantage of the darkness, officials.

From the suspected spot, a pika gun besides some ammunition used for making IED was recovered, they added.

“On a credible input an op5 was launched along with Army, CAPF last night at Nandimarg Kulgam. Some Exchange of fire took place immediately laying cordon of the target houses. It seems that militants ran away in initial firing itself,” JKP tweeted.

A senior police official said that they had input of three militants including two locals hiding in the area but they managed to give slip to forces after brief exchange of fire.

Furthermore a PIKA LMG and a material used to make IED’s was recovered from the spot and search operation concluded on Saturday afternoon, he said.(PTK)
