Administration flawed all norms in DDC chairperson elections in Kupwara: NC

Says partisan disposition of administration raises serious question mark on partiality of elections

Srinagar Feb 08 (PTK): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday stated that the district administration Kupwara flawed all norms in the elections to district development council chairperson and deputy chairperson by playing a partisan role to engineer a particular outcome.

Remarking on the election process held in Kupwara, Party’s District president Kupwara Qaisar Jamsheed Lone said that all set norms were thrown to winds in the elections. “The predetermined time for the elections was set from 11.00 pm to 1.00 pm; during that time our elected DDCs stayed put at the election venue waiting for the election proceedings. But the elections were subsequently adjourned due to the lack of perquisite quorum. Our DDC members left the venue after 1.00 pm as the predetermined time for the elections was only up to 1.00pm. Ditching all norms the elections for the DDC chairperson and deputy chairperson were then held in veil of secrecy at around 2.00 pm, much later after our DDC members had left the venue. It was only after our members had left the election venue that the administration ensured the presence of two independent DDC members and the elections were held after the defined timeslot. The way the entire exercise was carried out raises serious question mark on the partiality of elections,” he said. (PTK)
